Jeera prices closed lower by 1.83 per cent on Monday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) on account of a surge in the supply from the producing regions in the midst of a decline in the export demand. 

At the NCDEX, jeera futures for March 2016 contract closed at Rs. 13,150 per quintal, down by 1.83 per cent, after opening at Rs. 13,465 against the previous closing price of Rs. 13,395. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 13,090. Global output of Jeera is around 2.2 lakh MT per year, of which India produces about 1.5 lakh MT per year. 

India exports Jeera mainly to the US, UK, UAE, Japan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Singapore and many other countries. Other Major exporters are Syria and Turkey.

Natural gas futures surged by more than 4.5 per cent in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity amidst hopes that cold weather in the US in early to mid- February may bolster the demand for gas-fired heating in the world’s biggest gas consuming nation, continuing to erode storage levels. 

About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes. November to March is the peak US gas heating season US gas stockpiles fell by 211 billion cubic feet to 3.086 trillion cubic feet in the week ended January 22, 2016.

Front-month Brent crude was trading at USD 35.54 per barrel at 0157 GMT, down 45 cents, or 1.25 percent, from the last close. US West Texas Intermediate was down 35 cents at USD 33.27 a barrel.

Barley prices closed higher by 0.6 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of strong demand from beer and cattle-feed making industries against restricted supply in physical markets. 

At the NCDEX, barley futures for April 2016 contract closed at Rs. 1,427 per quintal, up by 0.6 per cent, after opening at Rs. 1,410 against the previous closing price of Rs. 1,418.5. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 1,435. 

The consumption demand for Barley in India mainly comes for malt, poultry and animal feed. Barley malt is majorly used for the production of alcoholic beverages in the country.

Chana prices closed higher 0.05 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the traders enlarged their holdings in the commodity on account of the good demand in the market. At the NCDEX, chana futures for April 2016 contract closed at Rs. 4,260 per quintal, up by 0.05 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,258 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,258. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 4,274. 

Moreover, the restricted arrivals of the commodity in the physical market due to lower estimated output also influenced the chana prices. India is the largest producer of chickpea followed by Pakistan, Turkey and Iran. 

India produces around 6 to 8 million tonnes and contributes around 70 per cent of the total world production.

Gold steadied near a 1-1/2-week peak at just below USD 1,100 an ounce early on Monday, with investors eyeing whether equities will come under renewed pressure and refresh safe-haven demand for bullion. 
FUNDAMENTALS 
* Spot gold was little changed at USD 1,098.41 an ounce by 0044 GMT, after gaining around 0.9 percent last week. 
* The precious metal had benefitted from investor aversion towards risky assets that has hit global stocks and crude oil. It peaked at USD 1,109.20 last week, its loftiest since Jan. 8. 
* US gold for February delivery gained 0.2 percent to USD 1,098.50 an ounce.
* Hedge funds and money managers increased their bullish bets in COMEX gold in the week to Jan. 19, and also boosted their bullish bets in silver to the highest in more than two months, US Commodity Futures Trading Commission data showed on Friday.

Natural Gas futures soared by over 2 per cent in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the energy commodity as forecast of a severe winter storm across the US East Coast raised the prospect of higher heating demand in the world’s biggest economy. 

About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes. November to March is the peak US gas heating season. Meanwhile, US gas supplies fell 178 billion cubic feet to 3.297 trillion cubic feet in the week ended January 15, 2016. The five-year average drop for the same period was 160 billion cubic feet while a year ago stockpiles fell 220 billion cubic feet. 

At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for January 2016 contract closed at Rs 145.6 per mmBtu, up by 2.25 per cent, after opening at Rs 144, against the previous closing price of Rs 142.4. It touched an intra-day high of Rs 148.6.

Chana prices closed lower by 0.51 per cent on Thursday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. At the NCDEX, chana futures for April 2016 contract closed at Rs. 4,253 per quintal, down by 0.51 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,275 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,275. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,220.

Maize settled down by -0.14% at 1460 tracking weakness in spot demand and overseas prices. As per Government data, in Maharashtra, maize has been sown in 2.07 lakh hectares higher by 0.10 lakh hectares than the corresponding period of last year.As per Government data, in Gujarat, maize has been sown in 0.69 lakh hectares lower by 0.27 lakh hectares than the corresponding period of last year

Jeera prices closed higher by 0.59 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as the investors increased their holdings in the commodity in the midst limited arrivals from growing regions. At the NCDEX, jeera futures for April 2016 contract closed at Rs. 13,705 per quintal, up by 0.59 per cent, after opening at Rs. 13,775 against the previous closing price of Rs. 13,625. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 13,780. 

Sentiment improved further as a result of reduced domestic supplies in the physical markets and some export enquiries. Gold dropped early on Thursday in Asia, slipping from a 1-1/2-week high, as battered stocks bounced back along with US crude.

FUNDAMENTALS 

*Spot gold was off 0.2 percent at USD 1,099.40 an ounce by 0039 GMT, after touching USD 1,109.20 on Wednesday, its highest since January 8.
*US gold for February delivery slipped 0.6 percent to USD 1,099.60 an ounce.
*Bullion has benefited from the risk-averse sentiment that has dragged equities and oil to multi-year lows and pushed investors towards assets deemed as safe havens.

*Asian shares and the dollar edged higher, but investors remained cautious as another shakeout on Wall Street and oil prices suggested volatility in financial markets will continue to temper risk appetite.

Turmeric trading range for the day is 8944-9888.
Turmeric prices dropped as the buyers are reported to be unresponsive towards bulk buying as they are waiting for new crop to enter in coming days.
During the first six months of this fiscal, India exported 46,500 ton turmeric as against 44,406 ton a year ago.
Investors are expecting that fresh arrivals will hit the market by this month end as harvesting also running in full swing.

Zinc Newa Latest Update

Zinc settled down -1.57% at 100.15 as more equity losses in Shanghai increased concern that demand will slow in China. Industrial metals retreated as Chinese shares extended the world’s worst selloff this year, with data showing the country’s inflation in December stayed at about half of the government’s 2015 target. U.S. retail sales unexpectedly fell in December as unseasonably warm weather undercut sales of winter apparel and cheaper gasoline weighed on receipts at service stations, adding to signs that economic growth braked sharply in the fourth quarter

The US Commerce Department said retail sales slipped 0.1 percent after an upwardly revised 0.4 percent gain in November.
Combined zinc inventories in Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangdong fell 9,900 to 325,200 tonnes this past week, due mainly to growing outward shipments.

Gold prices surged Rs 340 to hit over two-month high of Rs 26,550 per ten grams at the bullion market today, taking positive cues from global market amid pick up in buying by jewellers to meet wedding season demand. 


Silver too recovered and reclaimed the Rs 34,000-mark by rising Rs 220 to Rs 34,015 per kg on increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers. A weaker rupee, which plunged to hit fresh 28-month low of 67.59 against the dollar yesterday that made imports costlier also supported the upside in gold prices.

CASTOE SEED NEWS

Castorseed prices rose by 1.26 per cent on Friday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the rise in demand from consuming industries against restricted arrivals in domestic markets which in turn encouraged the investors to enlarge their holdings.

At the NCDEX, castor seed futures for January 2016 contract were trading at Rs. 3,465 per quintal tonnes, up by 1.26 per cent, after opening at Rs. 3,445 against the previous closing price of Rs. 3,422. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 3,465 till the trading. (At 12.35 PM today). Castor is a non-edible oilseed crop; basically a cash crop, with average 46 per cent oil recovery.

CHANA NEWS TODAY

Chana settled down by -0.82% at 4360 on hopes of rise in arrival of new crop in the coming days coupled with pressure of imported crop. Reports subdued demand at higher prices as the standing chana crop is developing well in Rajasthan and MP also weighed. As per data release by Agriculture Ministry, Chana planted 81.08 lakh tonnes (lt) so far, compared with 79.95 lt last year.

Gold eases for second day on uptick in risk appetite

Gold lost more ground on Friday, falling for five out of six sessions as a rebound in oil and equity markets reduced the precious metal's safe haven appeal. Gold has dropped 2.5 percent this week, its biggest weekly decline since early November. 

FUNDAMENTALS 

* Spot gold slid 0.1 percent to USD 1,076.88 an ounce by 0007 GMT while US gold futures gained 0.3 percent to USD 1,076.8. 

*A bounce in global stock markets and oil prices added pressure on precious metals. 

* The metal hit two-month highs at USD 1,112 last week as volatility in Chinese stocks battered appetite for risk, but trading has since fallen as expectations of further US interest rate increases lowers demand for the non-interest-paying asset. 

* The Fed raised rates in December and attention has shifted to how many hikes will follow in 2016.

Gold turns higher as the dollar and US stocks weaken

Gold turned higher on Wednesday as the dollar fell, US stocks dropped and a Federal Reserve president raised concerns about inflation expectations. 

US stocks sold off sharply and a brief rally in beaten-down oil prices stalled after US data added to concerns about an over supplied energy market. 

Spot gold was up 0.6 percent at USD 1,093.25 an ounce at 3:40 p.m. EST (2040 GMT), while US gold futures GCcv1 settled up 0.2 percent at USD 1,087.10. "The downturn in equities helped push prices up in the latter part of trade," said James Steel, chief metals analyst for HSBC Securities in New York. 

Also late in the session, Chicago Federal Reserve Bank President Charles Evans said he was nervous about the potential effects of China's slowdown on the US economy and about the possibility that inflation expectations may be slipping.

Crude palm Oil settled up

Crude palm Oil settled up by 0.48% at 416.9 due to pickup in demand in the spot market. Further, limited arrivals from producing belts too supported prices. According to latest data released by SEA, country has set a new record for highest import of palm products in Oil year 2014-15, which has created a glut in domestic market. Import of palm products during October 2015 is the highest in any single month at 1.11 mt. Exports too declining on concern over China’s slowing economy. December's palm exports from Malaysia, the world's second-biggest producer of palm oil by volume, fell 5%- 6% compared to the month before. Malaysian palm oil futures bounce back on Friday due to forecast of declining production. As per the reuters poll, Output is likely to have dropped to 1.36 million tonnes, down 17.8pc from November and the lowest since February 2015, a Reuters poll showed. However, concern over weak export demand and a narrowing spread between the tropical oil and soyoil capped further gain.

Jeera settled up by 0.11% at 13975 on short covering after prices dropped due to higher sowing following favourable weather in the producing belts. However, anticipation of growing demand amid declining stocks with the stockists limited the downside. Gujarat, the top cumin producing state, has planted more cumin until Jan 05, 2016 compared to last year sowing progress. In Gujarat, jeera is planted about 7% more area at 2,83,000 hectares compared to 2,64,400 hectares last year same time. As per data, arrivals of Jeera in Gujarat markets for the calendar year 2015 till Oct is lower by 217 per cent at about 1.23 lt compared to 3.9 lt last year. According to Dept of Commerce data, the export of jeera during first 6 month of 2015-16 (Apr-Sep) is 44,140 tonnes, which is, lower as compared to last year same period. Jeera (cumin) exports have been 1.55 lt in 2014-15. According to govt data, exports for 2015-16 shows a decline trend compared to last year until September.
