Today's Mcx Market Trading Tips for Copper

Copper futures rallied by more than 2 per cent in the domestic market on Friday as investors and speculators booked fresh positions in the industrial metal amid a pickup in physical demand for copper, in the domestic spot market. 

Further, finance heads from the Group of 20 countries sought to revive confidence in the global economy with the People’s Bank of China Governor saying that the Chinese central bank had at its disposal, more monetary easing room to act and bolster economic growth in the world’s biggest metals consumer. China’s central bank also assured that there is no reason for yuan depreciation, bolstering confidence. 

Copper may extend momentum today as upbeat US economic data bolsters outlook. At the MCX, Copper futures for February 2016 contract closed at Rs. 321.7 per 1 kg, up by 2.13 per cent, after opening at Rs. 316, against the previous closing price of Rs. 315. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 326.45.

U.S. natural gas futures edged modestly higher on Friday, but prices held close to 17-year lows as forecasts calling for more warmth in the U.S. northeast over the next two weeks weighed. On the New York Mercantile Exchange, natural gas for delivery in April inched up 0.6 cents, or 0.34%, to close the week at $1.791 per million British thermal units. 


Prices fell to $1.711 on Thursday, the lowest level since 1999, as the contract for March delivery expired. For the week, natural gas futures lost 7.6 cents, or 4.07%, the fourth straight weekly decline, as a widening supply glut and expectations of mild demand weighed. 


Natural gas prices tumbled on Thursday after the U.S. Energy Information Administration said that natural gas storage in the U.S. fell by 117 billion cubic feet, much less than expectations for a decline of 139 billion.

Copper futures fell in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators exited positions in the industrial metal as weak US economic data signaled concerns over copper’s demand outlook. 


Manufacturing activity in Kansas City shrank in February with the manufacturing gauge falling to -12 this month, the lowest since 2009, from -9 in January, as a reading below 0 signals contraction. 


At the MCX, Copper futures for February 2016 contract closed at Rs.315 per 1 kg, down by 0.97 per cent, after opening at Rs. 317, against the previous closing price of Rs. 318.1. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 314.

Gold was little changed above USD 1,230 an ounce on Friday as safe-haven gains were capped by an overnight rebound in global equities and oil prices, although technical signals for prices were bullish. 


FUNDAMENTALS
*Spot gold was steady at USD 1,235.38 an ounce by 0043 GMT, after posting a small 0.4 percent gain in the previous session. 
*Global equity markets got a boost from an upturn in crude oil on Thursday as the market focused on an upcoming meeting of major oil producers that investors hope could stabilize volatile petroleum markets.

*The yen was broadly softer early on Friday as demand for the safe-haven currency waned after a rebound in oil prices helped spur a rally on Wall Street.

Mentha Oil futures fell during noon trade in the domestic market on Thursday as investors and speculators resorted to profit booking, in the agri commodity, at existing levels, amidst physical demand for Mentha Oil, in the domestic spot market. 


Further, higher physical arrivals from the major Mentha Oil producing areas, also exerted downward pressure on the commodity. 


At the MCX, Mentha Oil futures for February 2016 contract were trading at Rs.940 per 1 kg, down by 0.28 per cent, after opening at Rs. 940.8, against the previous closing price of Rs. 942.6. It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 937.

Chana prices closed lower by 0.55 per cent on Wednesday at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of the steady sowing progress of pulses along with high supplies in major producing states. 


At the NCDEX, chana futures for April 2016 contract closed at Rs. 4,127 per quintal, down by 0.55 per cent, after opening at Rs. 4,136 against the previous closing price of Rs. 4,150.


It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 4,108. India is the largest producer of chickpea followed by Pakistan, Turkey and Iran. India produces around 6 to 8 million tonnes and contributes around 70 per cent of the total world production.

Natural Gas futures extended a slide in the domestic and international market on Wednesday as investors resorted to a cautious approach ahead of the weekly US supplies data which may signal the state of the demand for the fuel in the world’s biggest gas consuming nation. 



US gas supplies probably fell by 125 billion cubic feet in the week ended February 19, 2016, compared to 158 billion cubic feet in the prior week, 220 billion cubic feet in the same week a year ago and a five-year average draw of around 137 billion cubic feet. 


At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for February 2016 contract closed at Rs 121.9 per mmBtu, down by 0.65 per cent, after opening at Rs 122.4, against the previous closing price of Rs 122.7. It touched an intra-day low of 120.7.

November to March is the peak US gas heating season. At the MCX, Natural Gas futures for February 2016 contract closed at Rs 129.7 per mmBtu, down by 1.14 per cent, after opening at Rs 131.3, against the previous closing price of Rs 131.2. It touched an intra-day low of 129.2.

At the NCDEX, jeera futures for March 2016 contract closed at Rs. 15,000 per quintal, up by 3.56 per cent, after opening at Rs. 14,530 against the previous closing price of Rs. 14,485. It touched the intra-day high of Rs. 15,060.

Natural gas futures plummeted by nearly 2 per cent in the domestic market on Friday, crashing to the lowest level in seven weeks overseas as investors and speculators shunned the energy commodity as forecasts for above normal temperatures later in February across the US threatened to curb the demand for the heating fuel in the world’s biggest gas consuming nation. About 49 per cent of US households use natural gas for heating purposes.


 November to March is the peak US gas heating season. 

Meanwhile, US storage levels remain more than adequate as total supplies are 20 per cent higher than levels at this time a year ago and 19 per cent above the five-year average for this time of year.

Crude oil futures soared by almost 9 per cent in the domestic market on Friday, marking the biggest single-day gain in seven years overseas as investors cheered speculation of coordinated production cuts by the OPEC.


 A cartel that accounts for about 40 per cent of global crude supplies, are preparing to cooperate on possible output cuts. He added that while Non-OPEC members such as the US were being forced to lower output due to falling oil prices.

Any OPEC deal will need the approval of Saudi Arabia, OPEC’s biggest crude exporter and their prime policy maker. 

A drop in the number of rigs drilling for oil in the US signaled lower production ahead, supporting sentiment. Baker Hughes said that US oil drilling count fell by 28 to 439 last week.

It touched the intra-day low of Rs. 1,352. Sentiment weakened further as a result of a decline in the demand for the commodity from bio-fuel making industries tracking the weak global markets.
